Clementine, age three, is coaching Hazel to stop swinging on the gate at the top of the stairs. At 22 months, Hazel can say a lot of words but always says more when prompted than spontaneously.

Clementine: "Hazel, get down from there. That's not safe."

Hazel gives her a rebellious stare and continues to swing.

Clementine: "Hazel, no! Do you want to die?"

Hazel stares some more.

Clementine: "Hazel, say 'no.'"

Hazel: "No."

Clementine: "Ok. Good. So get down from there."
