the kids have been learning to tell knock knock jokes. even Hazel, who's just two, can tell the interrupting cow joke. for those who don't know, it goes something like this:
knock, knock
who's there?
interrupting cow.
interrupting cow who?
[while the other person is asking the question]: Moooo!
in other linguistic areas, they are less advanced. in particular, we are trying to help Clementine, 3.5, learn to stop talking while others are talking. all night at dinner her surprisingly sweet yet immensely annoying little "mommy. mommy!" punctuated my conversation with our friends. on the way home in the car Gavin asked her to try harder next time: "honey, mommy and I really want you to stop interrupting other people--just wait for your turn."
and Clementine responded with unassailable logic. "but I'm a cow," she said.
I would have thought G might have asked Clementine to be more annoying when she's interrupting other people?
